Vectrix-Maxi Two wheeler

Vectrix-Maxi is the abbreviation for Mean of transport, Electronic, Revolution, Innovation, Transformation, Commuter and the special X factor. This was the brainchild of some motor-engineering honchos. These mean of transports run on nickel hydride energy cell and they are as amazing as the energy cell fitted within. The mean of transport is available as a two-wheeler and is priced at eleven thousand dollar. This is different from the three-wheeler V3 series, which is priced at fifteen thousand dollar. The mean of transport has two wheels placed right in the front for a more competent handling.

The most refined feature of the spectacular scooter includes a super efficient gearbox along with aluminium make, drive train for weight fall. Also the aerodynamic technique is employed to diminish the pull. Centre of gravity is much low with firm structure and uniform weight allocation ensures better function. The Vectrix-Maxi is noiseless and includes a very competent regenerative braking system that ends up refilling energy in to the energy cell once again.

Vectrix-Maxi suits commuters traveling on a daily basis. It allows the driver to stop any time and ride smoothly even if you don't use both hands. The rider can twist the throttle of the two-wheeler and then manoeuvre it accordingly for slowing down as and when needed. Quick acceleration of the two-wheeler makes it a rider's dream mean of transport in times of slicing through the deadly traffic jams. The energy cell of the two-wheeler can easily be charged in about close to two hours.

The top qualities of this two-wheeler would include:

- Very fast pick up, about 0-50 miles/hour in less than 7 seconds,
- Can travel at least seventy miles on one charge,
- Highest speed of sixty two miles/hour

Experts think this Vectrix-Maxi is way ahead of the league and would end up becoming the face of the new age two wheelers. In the previous year it was declared as one of the top bikes of the year 2007. It makes a dream mean of transport in terms of looks and features.

4. Gas pedal works smoothly. If the rider is using a single energy cell then it can go upto twenty to twenty five miles per charge. The eGo cycle can climb hills effortlessly with fifteen percent category at a speed of eighteen miles per hour with a one seventy pound rider.

The main backbone of the two-wheeler happens to be the DC motor specially built and manufactured for the eGo range of cycles. The cycles have enough strength to go uphill. The smooth journey on the eGo cycle is possible quiet only because of the front twin spring suspension divergence. It requires a belt program, which allows the scooter to remain silent.

7. NumoCruiser LX

This is also a new age mean of transport and a steal for techno savvies. It has almost set a new benchmark for the present crop of mean of transports and two wheelers. The most common drawbacks of the mean of transports that are produced these days are the extreme short range and abysmal climbing ability of the mean of transport. But Numo Cruiser has gained perfection on these terms. The Cruiser has a range of at least thirty miles but the motor controller allows the Cruiser to climb at least twenty percent of the hills. The Cruiser provides customized rear suspension. The easy navigability of the two-wheeler makes it a great option in terms of style and design in the whole milieu of electric two wheelers available in the industry.

8. EVT America Z-20

The EVT Z-20 two wheeler is motor-engineered by sixty volt twenty thousand five hundred-watt hub motor that can move up to forty-five miles per hour. The motor controller is immensely efficient and regulates the power, which is put into the motor. The motor also manages the performance of the two-wheeler. It has often been regarded as the best transport mean of transport for any everyday traveler as the features of the motorcycle are impressive. They have ten-inch wheels and three and a half inches broad tyres that provide grip and firmness. The two-wheeler also has front and rear disc brakes and jolt absorbers. The two wheelers are also extremely chic and are model transport mean of transports for all daily commuters.

9. MotorinoXpi

This is undoubtedly the scooter for GenY. It is built on the lines of a motorcycle with the wheels 3.5" wide that enables it to endure the worst climatic conditions. With the pedals fitted onto the transport it is regarded as a bike that shuns the requirement of registration. Without the wheels it becomes a low speed motorcycle, which however needs to be registered. It is fun to ride on this two-wheeler as it almost slides down the road.

The motor of the bike is built with huge molten magnets, which enhances the efficiency of the bike. On starting the motor-engine the bicycle accelerates for at least five seconds to thirty-two kilometre/h. The hydraulic front suspension makes it a ride with pleasure.

10. iZIP Fusion Nuvinci CVP

The electric two-wheeler called iZIP Fusion Nuvinci CVP is one great mean of transport that provides amazing state-of-the-art technology and a fascinating biking experience. Its capacity is twenty-five miles per charge. The electric two-wheeler is fitted with three fifteen AH valve and rechargeable energy cells for a speed of fifteen miles per hour.

by Gia Liu

Cheap Mopeds

It used to be that when scooters were mentioned, people thought about a toy that probably had two wheels (sometimes three) and was propelled by the foot that was not actually on the scooter. However, that has changed and now when the word scooter is heard, most people think about an electric driven or gas driven device.

For the younger riders, there are stand up gas powered scooters. They tend to just have a board for standing between the handle and first wheel and the second wheel. However, some may have a small seat on the back for resting. These work really well for getting around a neighborhood and helping to save some gas. The maximum speed of these scooters does not tend to go past 30 mph.

Besides the gas consumption, there are other things to consider when wanting to buy a scooter. There is the decision to have air filled tires or solid tires, the type of transmission, and the suspension.

Notable manufacturers of these types of scooters are Go-Ped, Evo Powerboards, and BladeZ Scooters.

There are also sit down scooters that are much more like motorcycles. These scooters are typically smaller and have smaller wheels, and a step through frame. However, they run on gasoline. They are very popular in Europe and Asia. In America, it seems to be more popular to have a maxi-scooter which means that the scooter has a bigger engine. The most familiar type of these scooters is probably the Vespa. In pop culture, a Vespa can be seen in the Lizzie McGuire Movie. As for a scooter in pop culture from a cartoon, Ron Stoppable, the character of Kim Possible, rides a scooter.

Scooters are quite popular for urban transportation. This is because they do not cost as much as a car, they have an low riding position, and they do not use as much gas as a car.

Both of these types of scooters can be quite popular to bring on vacation. They often fit in the trunks of cars. They can then be brought along and be ridden in the vacation destination rather than taking the car everywhere.

Before buying a motor scooter, there are many factors to consider. The first is balance. Most people can balance on a scooter, but would you be able to balance? This is the very first question to ask, for if the answer is no, a scooter should not be bought.

However, if you can balance on a scooter, then there are many other questions to ask. Do you want to mainly sit or stand? If you want to stand, do you want a seat for times when you want to rest, or do you just want to get off of the scooter and sit elsewhere? If you want to sit, where do you need the seat relative to the handlebars?

Then, there are the questions about efficiency with fuel and the maximum speed that can be achieved. There are many options to consider before buying one of these scooters for mobility.

An important thing to realize is that these are scooters for mobility, but they are not for indoors, though some places may allow them. If looking for mobility for an elder person, it is much better to go to those medical websites about scooter chairs and not these scooters. There are many types of cheap mopeds and scooters available, from mopeds which are basically 50cc scooters to small petrol scooters which kids love up to large mobility scooters for the disabled. Whichever situation you require a scooter for, cheap maybe not always best but the quality of any scooters is usually pretty high quality.,

By Rob D Stone

X-Treme Scooters – The Good - Bad and the Ugly

It is quite common for trends to come and go with each new generation. Fashion, music, slang and even a persons lifestyle, how they live their life is affected by these fads or trends. Toys and recreational past times are no exception. In the days of old, 5-10 years ago, everyone wanted an electric scooter or a gas scooter.

No one wants plain old electric scooters anymore, they don’t want just gas powered scooter; the trend today is to get an X-Treme Scooter. An X-Treme Scooter is versatile, quick and can go the distance.

With growing popularity, X-Treme Scooters is filling that need.

1. X-Treme scooters are versatile: When you look for a scooter, whether it is a gas scooter or an electric scooter, you want to be able to fold it down fo easy storage. The foldable electric scooters are popular among college students, mariners, campers and most popular among those with an RV.
2. X-Treme Scooters are quick: All X-Treme Scooters are quick for their assigned task. It is important to note that the speed you get with your x-treme scooter is dependant on such variables as
a. The weight that the scooter is carrying.
b. The terrain that the scooter is going over.
c. The weather conditions – wind, rain ..etc.
d. Maintenance: The condition, and charge if electric, of the scooter – always check tire pressure, oil/grease chain. If gas scooter, clean air filter, wipe plug and make sure gas tank has no debris buildup.

3. How far can X-Treme Scooters Go? Well, that really depends on the type and model. But that is not all. For electric scooters, you need to go a little deeper than just the description.

a. Watts does not always equal power: When you see an electric scooter and it says 250,350,500 and some boast 750 up 1000 watt motors, how can you really be sure you’re getting what you paid for? Every electric scooter motor has a plate on it for identification. On the plate is the actual output rating for that motor. I have seen 500 watt scooters listed as 750 and 1000 watt. Be careful.

b. Voltage does not always equal power: If you have the wattage, you need the batteries to support the wattage. In the old days, everything was either an 8 volt or a single 12 volt system. Over the years, x-treme scooters have evolved into 24, 36 and 48 volt systems. Traditional electric scooters these days will have either 12 or 24 volt systems. When you see a 36 volt system, that will give you a minute increase in power, but the real advantage is distance and torque. The more voltage, the longer your scooter will run and the more weight your scooter will be able to cary.

c. The Controller Is Key: What is the controller? The controller is the “Brain” of your scooter. Think of the processor n a computer; the controller is the processor in your scooter and without this, the scooter will not work. Though you have no choice in what controller you get, you need to make sure that the controller will work with the motor and the battery setup of your scooter. Without compatibility between these systems, your scooter can blow fuses, surge the batteries, surge the motor, or even catch fire.
Most electric scooters and gas scooters these days are made in China. There are very few companies in the United States that make their own scooters. Go-ped is the leader of this group. X-Treme Scooters are gaining popularity and are currently used in X-Treme Sports; such as the X-Games. In recent years, electric motor and battery technology has advanced tremendously. Today's LEVs (Light Electric Vehicles) have clear advantages over fossil fuel powered vehicles in the areas of performance, ease of use and operating costs.

"Green is in" ... a lot of people have become environmentally-friendly these days. You can say that it has now become trendy and chic to travel in these "green" modes of transportation.

Pollution free ... Because electric vehicles run on batteries and do not burn fossil fuels as their main system of propulsion, they provide the opportunity to reduce your personal environmental impact and improve local air quality.

Quiet ... There's nothing better than cruising down the streets and the only thing you hear is the wind blowing in the air. Electric motors are quiet and give you an entirely different feeling when riding. Many gas-powered personal vehicles are louder than lawn-mowers. Quiet electric vehicles seem to glide down the road with ease and are welcomed in most communities.

Whatever your reason may be for choosing to purchase an electric scooter, I have compiled a list that you may find helpful in narrowing down your choices. In no particular order, the top 10 electric scooters are:

Vectrix Maxi-Scooter VECTRIX is the acronym for: Vehicle, Electronic, Commuter, Transformation, Revolution, Innovation, X factor, and was started by a number of engineers. The big news here is the nickel metal hydride battery, because with any electric vehicle, it's only as good as the battery inside. The V1 model ($11,000) is currently available in a two-wheeled scooter as opposed to the three-wheeled V3 model (which won't be available until later this year and will be priced at $15,000). The V3 has two wheels mounted in the front for better handling and stability. Sophisticated design advancements of the sharp, striking Vectrix include a high-efficiency gearbox and drive train, aluminum construction for weight reduction and aerodynamic styling to reduce drag. A low center of gravity, stiff frame and even weight distribution provide superior handling. The Vectrix is virtually silent and highly efficient-a patented regenerative braking system redirects energy back into the Vectrix battery pack, which helps to extend its range by up to 12 percent. For consumers with urban commutes, Vectrix is both convenient and cost effective. The driver can stop and go with one hand by simply twisting the throttle back for acceleration and twisting it forward to slow down smoothly and safely. Fast acceleration and handling make it easy and safe to zip in and out of traffic. Plus, an onboard charger plugs in to any standard 110/220V electrical outlet to charge the battery pack in just two hours. Features of the Vectrix Maxi-Scooter include: - goes 0 to 50 mph in 6.8 seconds - top speed of 62 mph - range of 70 miles on a single charge We feel that the Vectrix electric scooter is the wave of the future and will revolutionize the electric scooter industry. Vectrix was named as one of MSN's bikes of the year in 2007. Designed with looks in mind, the Vectrix is responsive, good-looking, reliable and fun to ride.

Go-Ped ESR 750 The Go-Ped ESR family consists of the following models: ESR 750, ESR 750EX and ESR 750H. The Go-Ped ESR750 simply is in a class of its own and no scooter in the market comes close to its build quality, power, performance and stylish design. Its durability, reliability and impeccable performance without compromising on any details makes it one fo the top electric scooters. It is ideal for Electric enthusiasts and scooterists looking for an electric scooter with an excellent range. In addition to it's unmatched power, reliability and performance, it is compact and easy to carry. The Go-Ped ESR750H Hoverboard electric scooter is based on the highly regarded and award winning GoPed ESR750EX , but incorporating the amazing Cantilevered Independent Dynamic Linkless Indespension (C.I.D.L.I.) suspension system featured on their highly successful off road products such as the Trail Ripper and Riot mini motorcycle. This two wheeled sensation will quietly, efficiently and effortlessly move riders of up to 400 lbs above the ground with the sensation as if they were magically levitating on a cloud. The ESR750H Hoverboard offers 2.7" of suspension travel in the front and 3.5" of suspension travel in the rear. This hover system is adjustable from "plush to firm" to accommodate and suit all rider preferences.

HCF 737 Pacelite The HCF 737 Pacelite Electric Scooter is a long-lived, well-built scooter. This is one of the few electric scooters that powers up quickly from a full stop, then can take on hills without hesitation. The HCF 737 Pacelite is a great commuter scooter, folding up for easy storage and transport. Given its speed, power, weight and reliability, both the beginner and experienced rider can appreciate its performance. Traveling at a top speed of 15mph, the HCF 737 Electric Scooter will go distances of up to 12 miles on a charge. Adjustable handlebars allow you to customize your ride for maximum comfort. And the removable seat and folding frame lets you take this electric scooter practically anywhere you want. This is one of the few electric scooters that offers full front and rear suspension for a smooth ride no matter what the terrain.

Zapino Electric Scooter ZAP is the acronym for: Zero Air Pollution and they recently introduced their new Zapino electric scooter. Not only economical and eco-friendly, the Zapino is powerful with an advanced 3000-watt brushless DC hub motor, perfect for city commuting. Able to reach speeds of 30 mph, the Zapino will be able to keep up with city traffic without contributing to city pollution. The rear wheel hub motor on the Zapino creates more room on board for additional batteries and performance. This creative drive system eliminates the need for belts or chains lowering it's overall maintenance. It also delivers a more enjoyable ride because it is practically silent. It accelerates smoothly with no shifting and has no engine vibration - just good, eco-friendly clean fun. There is an optional upgrade, with Lithium batteries, that will boost the range up to a very respectable 65 miles from the 30 miles that come from the standard batteries.

Forsen Hummer The Forsen Hummer is the first compact scooter in the business to offer room for 2 riders. These scooters are made for older teens and adults who want reliable short-to-medium range transportation that is not limited by hills. The Forsen scooter is street legal and complies with USA DOT guidelines (headlight, brake light, and turn signals). The Forsen Hummer is a heavy duty electric scooter capable of traveling at 28-33 mph with a range of 25 miles for a 175-lb. rider. With it's 1000-watt motor combined with 100-amp controller, this scooter really can handle two riders (total weight of 350 lbs.) with no problem. Range of 25 miles comes via a 24V/40Ah battery supply which is 3-4 times larger than most scooters. Easily handles most off road conditions. Features include full suspension, front disk brake, flat-proof tires, and a fast battery charger (4 hours or less).

eGo Cycle 2 LX The eGO LX is designed for daily commuters and errand runners who will be driving in moderate to heavy traffic. The LX is fully equipped for registration in any state and provides the same range and speed as the eGO Classic. In the GO FAST mode, top speed is 24 mph, electronically limited. Zero to 20 mph in less than 4 seconds. In the "GO FAR" mode, top speed is 17mph, and acceleration is smooth and simple. Using a single battery pack, range is 20-25 miles in the "GO FAR" mode and 15-20 miles in the "GO FAST" mode. The eGO Cycle climbs up hills with ease. It will climb a 15% grade at 18 mph with a 170lb rider. The heart and soul of the eGO is a tough DC motor designed specifically for the eGO Cycle. It's powerful enough to pull heavy riders up big hills. The soft ride of the eGO cycle 2 is the result of a custom front dual spring suspension fork. The eGO Cycle LX uses a quiet belt drive transmission that requires no lubrication and is nearly silent.

Motorino XPi The Motorino XPi is the next generation bicycle/scooter model. Built on a motorcycle frame, it has motorcycle grade 3.5" wide wheels which makes it very stable in any weather condition. With the pedals on, it is classified as a bicycle and does not need to be licensed or registered. If you take the pedals off the scooter, it becomes a LSM (low speed motorcycle) and you need to have it licensed and insured. Its motor is uniquely built with oversized rare earth magnets, which increases the torque and efficiency. You can feel this when you start - it accelerates for 5 seconds to 32km/h. The regenerative brake also returns more power in the battery when braking. Its hydraulic front suspension absorbs any vibration and makes the ride very smooth and comfortable.

Numo Cruiser LX Designed for electric enthusiasts and commuters, the Cruiser LX Electric Scooter is a new generation PEV (personal electric vehicle). The Numo Cruiser answers the faultss of today's electric scooters and sets new standards for scooter performance. Most electric scooters today have two serious flaws: short range and poor hill climbing ability. The Cruiser LX has a maximum range of 30 miles and the motor controller enables the Cruiser LX to climb 20% grade hills! The Cruiser LX features adjustable rear suspension. You can adjust stiffness to suit your comfort level.

iZIP Fusion NuVinci CVP The iZIP Fusion NuVinci CVP Drive electric scooter delivers a totally unique riding experience with it's incorporation of cutting-edge CVP (continuously variable planetary) technology. The IZIP Fusion NuVinci uses both the patented Currie Electro-Drive system and the NuVinci CVP, leveraging the benefits of both technologies by creating an automatic, multi-gear drive system that will enhance the performance, range and ability to handle hills and higher weights without stalling. It regulates the speed and torque of the motor while monitoring its performance. The Z-20 is the ideal commuter vehicle to have. Features include: 10 inch wheels (rim) and 3.5 inch wide tires to provide traction and stability, front and rear disc brakes, double front and rear shock absorbers

by John Mixx

Top 10 Gas Scooters

Many manufacturers of gas scooters have come and gone in the past 10 years. It has become a very competitive industry; especially since the influx of cheaper Chinese brand clones entering the U.S. market. That being said, the quality gap between USA made and Chinese made scooters still heavily tilts in favor of the USA branded scooters. It is no surprise that 10 out of the 10 top gas scooters are all USA made scooters.

1. EVO 2X Powerboard

The Evo 2X is a third generation gas scooter from Puzey Design. The Evo brand powerboards are the highest quality products on the market and the fastest scooters ever built. The 2-speed gearbox is a patented, unique drive system that is the heart of the Evo 2X. It is the first two speed scooter in the world.

The range of applications of powerboards and scooters have thus far been limited by low revving, low horsepower engines. Now with the 2-speed gearbox, you can have the power when pulling off, or going uphill, in first gear and have the top speed with 2nd gear. Steep hill climbs for riders over 250lbs are no problem for the Evo 2X.

Another technological advancement found in the Evo 2X is the patented Cam-Link suspension. It is a true suspension system that offers a smooth ride, while offering excellent resistance when landing after jumps. Once you try it you will simply see there is nothing like it. This suspension is the strongest, most robust front suspension in the industry today.

The Evo 2X is one of the most reliable scooters ever produced. The steel and T6 aluminum frame are nearly indestructible. There have been reports of Evo scooters going 1300 miles without even replacing a belt.

Things you'll never have to replace include:

The Frame and Suspension - Even though this scooter is largely designed with light weight aluminum, it is reinforced with steel where necessary. This makes the frame and structure of the scooter nearly indestructible.

The Engine - The Active 50 is not only an impressive power plant, it is also one of the most reliable engines available. A properly maintained engine which is run on 91+ octane fuel with a proper mix (1:40 - 1:50) will last the life of the scooter.

The Deck - The Evo 2X comes with one of the sturdiest decks available for a scooter. Although it is aluminum, it is unbelievably resilient to scratching and will never bend or crack.

2. Go-Ped GTR46i - Trail Ripper Interceptor

The Goped GTR Interceptor is an on-road, street racing version of the Goped GTR46 Trail Ripper. This high-performance Go-Ped now comes with the following modifications:

  New quieter exhaust system

Smooth ride AT Primo Duro Trap aggressive treaded street tires

  Higher speed, better fuel economy

Quieter GSR46R 6-76 sprocket drive ratio

These modifications make the Go-Ped GTR46i perfect for those that want to experience the fully suspended plush ride on paved and unpaved surfaces that comes only from the race proven and patented CIDLI suspension system. Dubbed C.I.D.L.I. for Cantilevered Independent Dynamic Linkless Indispension, this unique front and rear swing arm system is indispensable to this practical and fun light weight off-road machine.

3. Go-Ped Riot

The Go-Ped Riot was introduced along side the Go-Ped GTR46 as a pitbike like "scooter". Like the GTR46, the Go-Ped Riot features front and rear CIDLI suspension.

Using the patented Trail Ripper adjustable suspension system in the front and rear, it offers riders great off-roading capabilities with 6" of travel on each end. Powered by the powerful Go-Ped GP460RS engine geared at 6:98, the rugged and highly reliable Go-Ped Riot gives excellent bottom end and a stock top speed of 30mph. The centrifugal clutch provides for a very user friendly yet thrill-packed ride.

4. Martin Monster Beast

The Martin Monster Beast is the most powerful MMI production scooter available. It comes stock with a 52cc Mitsubishi engine which has almost twice the torque as the RC230 powered scooters. Each Beast is hand built by a single technician.

The frame uses the same dual suspension system Martin Monsters has become famous for. The frame is show chromed and hand polished. The drive chain is a robust 35 pitch heavy duty chain with a centrifugal clutch for easy stop-and-go use. The Beast is very powerful but also very quiet with tremendous reserves of power and torque. The Martin Monster Beast comes with an anti-vibration system for a very smooth vibration free ride. Many aftermarket performance parts are available to further customize your Beast.

5. Go-Ped GTR Roadster

The Goped GTR Roadster is an economy version of the Goped GTR46i. With the exception of the smaller Chung Yang GPL290 engine and welded T-bar handlebars, the GTR Roadster is the exact same scooter.

This cool scooter features the race proven, patented, adjustable and bullet proof GTR full 6" CIDLI suspension frame. To that we've installed the incredibly light, yet powerful and quieter GPL290 engine with TT tires and sprocket drive ratios of the GSR Cruiser.

6. Martin Monster Super Shocker

The Martin Monster Super Shocker is a dual purpose machine equally at home, off road, or on. It comes with 10" pneumatic knobby tires, to handle any terrain. The Super Shocker comes with a heavy duty automatic clutch which allows hands free stop-and-go operation.

This is the first and the best production scooter to use full suspension. The front suspension is telescoping motorcycle style and the rear is mono shock absorbing with up to 4" of travel. A drilled front disk brake gives sure fast stopping. Power from the Martin Monster Super Shocker is by the Komatsu Zenoah RC230 engine with 2.5HP.

7. EVO 2 Powerboard

The Evo 2 is a third generation gas scooter from Puzey Design. The Evo brand powerboards are the highest quality products on the market and the fastest scooters ever built. The 2-speed gearbox is a patented, unique drive system that is the heart of the Evo 2X. It is the first two speed scooter in the world.

The Evo 2 is a high-performance, two speed scooter released as a more economical version of the Evo 2X. Unlike its big-brother, the Evo 2 does not have front suspension or a scrub board to protect the under-deck area. Rather than the impressive Active 50, the Evo 2 sports the milder Active 40 engine.

Since the Evo 2 does have the two speed transmission of the Evo 2X, it still does perform impressively despite the lack of performance in the Active 40 engine. If the Evo 2 is being used purely for transportation, the Active 40 will provide enough power along with the two speed transmission, but if any real speed is desired, an engine upgrade should be the first step.

That being said, the Evo 2 is one of the most reliable scooters ever produced

8. Go-Ped Super GSR46R

The Go-Ped GSR46R is one of the most powerful street scooters released by Go-Ped. It is intended to be a street-only scooter since it lacks any form of frame-based suspension. When it was released, the GSR46R, Go-Ped marketed it as the fastest production scooter in the world. Although the claim is debatable, it could very well have been true due to the high speeds attainable with the large R460 engine.

Developed on the legendary GSR40Tsi - Interceptor Go-Ped - the Super GSR46R is powered by the same motor as on the fearless Trail Ripper GTR46. Equipped with a patent pending centrifugal clutch chain drive mechanism geared at 6/76, the GP460RS engine delivers 4.2HP and 2.31 ft-lbs torque with a 17,500 redline, providing for excellent performance at low and high speeds. Tunable, it can even reach 5.5+ HP and 2.6+ ft-lbs of torque with the addition of an aftermarket expansion chamber.

The front and rear Mad Dog disc brakes provide excellent braking performance perfectly matched for the power output of the Go-Ped Super GSR46R.

All of Patmont Motor Werks finest racing components come standard: Heavy duty 4130 chromoly steel frame and double sided fork, pneumatic TT tires mounted with magnesium rims and 20" Motorcycle style "Tim Patmont bend" racing handlebars fitted with a slide tube clamp, billet stem pro clamp, Go-Ped race pad and Pro control levers.

9. Martin Monster Moto

The Martin Monster Moto is a full suspension, chain driven scooter which inherited much of its design from its older brother, the Martin Monster Beast. The Moto's advanced design features include such technical innovations as an anti-vibration system, which provides for a smooth vibration free ride. Other features include dual disk brakes, heavy duty chain drive, automatic clutch and front & rear suspension.

10. Go-Ped GSR Cruiser

The GSR Cruiser is the perfect machine for the customer wanting a quiet, reliable and economical motorized scooter with good performance, but also for beginners wanting an affordable, safe and easy to learn first scooter. PMW believes it is the perfect machine for a very large segment of motorized scooter enthusiasts.

The Go-Ped GSR Cruiser is also the perfect machine for motor heads and the after market community, as chassis upgrades and screaming engine mods are widely available. The GSR Cruiser's power plant, the new GPL290, is based on the high performance GP290RS engine, designed to be a very reliable, quiet and economical cruiser. Top speeds for the GSR Cruiser are in the mid 20mph range, and its horse power is similar to the earlier GSR40.

Stopping power comes from the front Mad Dog brake caliper and double ground and hardened stainless steel Wave disc rotor. The rear brake mount is ready for the rear brake upgrade should the customer so choose to modify for more speed which needs more stopping power.

Cheap Motor Scooters

Hundreds of companies and brands offer different types of motor scooters. Available in different sizes, styles and colors, prices vary by model and company. Some companies offer affordable prices and discounts, enabling us to make huge savings on motor scooters.

Motor scooters can be gas or electric-powered. They range in price from $300 to $2,000 or more. Some companies offer further discounts for huge savings. Urban Scooters, Planet Mobility, United Scooter and GMI Motor Sport are some example of companies which offer motor scooters at discounted rates.

100% chrome electric motor scooters can be found at United Scooter, which gives a 110% guarantee for the lowest price of motor scooters. Featuring disc brakes and speeds ranging from 25 to 35 mph, its electric scooters are a good value. The company offers gas motor scooters, too.

The Scooter Company also offers motor scooters at reduced or wholesale prices. Gas scooters of 99cc, 125cc, 150cc, and 250cc can all be found here. At an affordable price of $399.00, Viza Motors provides gas scooters equipped with disc brakes, great suspension, removable seat, and lots of other features. Hence, it is always advisable to look for safety and other features along with the price.

by Damian Sofsian

Gas Scooters Have Many Advantages

Thanks to the ever increasing gas prices, everyone is looking for ways to ease the pain at the gas pumps and save some money. This may be the right time for you to consider purchasing one of those powered scooters. Both gas scooters and electric motor scooters have their own unique set of features. Thanks to the many varied styles of scooters that are available, you should have no trouble finding one that is right for you.

The gasoline scooter can usually get more mileage before having to refuel, whereas even the top electric scooter battery will need recharging every few hours or around 16 miles. The gas powered scooters can take you several miles (around 250-300) on a single gallon tank so that saves you money because you would use less gas to fill it and it results in less fuel stops.

If someone were to tell you that the faster you go the less you will pay, would you believe them? Normally that statement would be false; however, in the case of gas scooters that is a possibility. They tend to be a better deal because you can drive them faster and still pay proportionally less than you would with electric ones. The gasoline ones will average anywhere from 10 to 20 mph faster than electric ones.

The gas motor scooters usually last longer as they are more durable, in part due to the fact that they are designed to handle higher speeds, as well as quite a few models being able to go off road as well. These ones work well in all seasons, unlike the electric scooter battery that decreases in power during both extreme cold and heat. Refueling is much easier when using a gas one, as you can just add gas, yet with electric ones, it is rather difficult to charge a battery when you are on the go and it takes about 4 to 8 hours for it to charge completely.

If you need a little more convincing before you purchase a gas scooter, then consider the fact that these devices have a basic and straight forward design, which makes it less susceptible to needing repairs; however, if repairs are necessary, then the scooters parts are normally readily available, saving time and money. Remember that you are already ahead of the game because cars and motorcycles are much more expensive than gas scooters so you were saving money the moment you make the purchase.

The gasoline ones emit far less emissions into the air than a car, allowing you to be environmentally friendly too. You may even be able to cut down your car insurance premium as these devices are generally less expensive to insure.

By Mike Selvon

What Are the Pros of a Gas Scooter?

These days, everyone is looking for ways to cut down on expenses, including alternate forms of transportation. That is one reason why powered scooters have become more popular again. Perhaps you are interested in an electric or gas scooter that will save you money. Each style has its own set of features so you are bound to find one you like. Consider checking out and a few different ones online before heading out and driving all over town, as doing so will save you time and money.

At one time if you wanted to own a scooter, then you had two choices. You could either purchase one of the kick scooters or none at all. Fortunately, there have been many changes and improvements since then, allowing more choices in both gas and electric scooters. They each have their own unique set of features that are constantly changing and improving. There are many different things that have been added to the designs. Being inexpensive to own, economical to operate and easy to handle, they continue to grow in popularity.

There are some heavier and larger gas powered scooters that are perfect for longer trips and the smaller and lighter models are great for running around town and doing errands. A gas scooter is generally faster than the electric models and can maintain a good speed for a longer period of time. A larger and heavier scooter has a larger gas tank as well so that you can travel further before having to stop and get gas.

While there are many things that can be done in order to conserve fuel and save money, such as car pooling, it is not always enough. That is one reason why the moped and scooter sales have been going through the roof and it does not show any signs of slowing down, until gas prices drop; however, that does not seem to be happening any time soon. So, of course, the gas powered scooter is likely to be around for quite some time.

Of course, some people still think that scooters are just for kids, but that could not be farther from the truth. While they are extremely cost effective they can still be a lot of fun. Some families have gotten more than one gas scooter so that they can take family excursions together without having to spend a great deal of money. It is more compact and as such you will have no problem when trying to park. Overall, motor scooters are an exceptional solution for most lifestyles.

by : Mike Selvon

EVO 2X Powerboard Gas Scooter

Make your purchase of an Evo 2X and I will include A Free Ada Racing Filter with velocity stack.

Add a performance pipe and I will take $15.00 off the cost of a Evo Powerboard 21T sprocket.

I also will drop $10 off the price of a Stalker Can if you buy it with the scooter and the pipe. However there is a whole new breed of scooters that have hit the market. Due to their size, fuel-efficiency, weight, and typically larger storage room than a motorcycle, they are ideal for teens. However with the recent spike in gas prices, adults are also looking into scooters as a fuel efficient alternative. They are an active way to not only get around but also have fun outside. The popularity of this type of vehicle will only continue to grow as gas prices soar and many are enjoying it everyday. Scooters are a fun and easy way to get around and enjoy not only the outdoors but also traveling almost anywhere. They are quite easily maneuvered, and can be turned left, right, up, down, and even completely around without trouble. Scooters are a breeze to drive, maneuver, and park, so no matter what your size or body type they are suitable. They are very easy to ride, and tend to be small enough to dodge traffic, making them great in cities. Scooters are still easier to drive than motorcycles in that there are no gears to shift and all the controls are at your fingertips.
Because most rear-wheel drive scooters are intended to negotiate more rugged terrain, they are usually equipped with rear anti-tips to support the scooter on hills. Because of the motor and wheel configuration, front-wheel drive scooters are usually direct-drive units, eliminating chains and belts. Conversely, rear-wheel drive scooters are powered by motors connected to the rear axle, either via a chain, a belt, a trans -axle unit, or some combination.

Gas

Gas powered scooters are more powerful, allowing the driver to travel further distances away from home. Although there has been an upturn in electric models, due to gas prices. Gas scooters and electric scooters are affordable making them the perfect alternative for short trips, local commutes, and a variety of sporting and recreational activities. Gas prices drive scooter sales. Gas powered scooters are lightweight and are generally thought of as a practical means of transportation. Gas powered scooters are built to offer faster speeds and a higher level of power than other types of scooters. For either recreation or transportation, electric scooters offer major advantages over gas-powered scooters: Electric scooters are allowed on public transit (bus/train/plane); gas-powered scooters are prohibited. Electric motors provide quick starts and hill-climbing without the delay of gas engine "ramp up". Motor scooters, both electric scooters and gas scooters, are a style of motorcycle that have a step through frame and have become a very popular method of travel all over the world.

Price

Prices are as low as $1,000, down from twice that, as cheaper scooters from Asia flood the market. Prices are quite reasonable, and the scooters cost almost nothing to operate. Higher end scooters can go as high as $8000 and can hit speeds of over 70 mph.

Conclusion

As fuel prices soar, motorcycles and scooters are more becoming more visible on city and suburban streets. Do your homework and some comparison shopping before buying. All in all they are a great investment and can only gain value to society as energy prices soar. As a matter of fact, China is the largest manufacturer of scooters in the world. Because most of the scooters from China are two to five times lower than American and European models, a lot of people opt for these models. Unfortunately, because of problems with customer service and defective parts, these cheap gas scooters have gotten a lot of bad remarks since they were first introduced in the market.

The bad reputation of gas scooters from China

In most of the forums online, there are a lot of posts that complain about defective parts like oil leakages that are caused by wrongly placed cover gaskets, falling muffler guards and fragile speed cables. Some people also complained about customer service personnel that kept on advising them to get a tune up until the warranty has expired.

Proving the critics wrong

The good news is that manufacturing companies in China have improved their quality control. For this reason, there are a lot of reliable cheap gas scooters in the market. The bad news is that the quality of these products has no uniformity. It’s still possible to find a cheap gas scooter that may not function well. So that you wouldn't have any of these bad experiences, here are two cheap gas scooters that will never let you down.

The best cheap gas scooters from China

There are cheap gas scooters with a four-stroke 150cc engine for as low as $999 in the market. The cheapest basic gas scooter is the 150cc Roadrunner Classic. Its structure is easily assembled and is known for the smooth and quiet ride that it provides. They are also built with a remote and alarm system. They come in silver, red, blue, black and yellow. They even come with a trunk with a matching color. The good thing about the Roadrunner Classic is that all the units have been test driven. They also come with 24-month power train parts only warranty. These units also have several warranty extension options. Among all the cheap gas scooters that you can find in the market, the Roadrunner Classic is the best deal that you can get.

The TANK Urban Sporty, on the other hand, is highly recommended for its power and reliability. This stylish scooter has a simple but solid structure that can carry two passengers. It is also legal in the freeway. Built with a remote an alarm system, this scooter can be purchased at an amount of $1,299. It is considered to the best among all cheap gas scooters.

Although it is one of the most well-praised cheap gas scooters in the market, it is not perfect. Its fuel tank capacity is only 0.875 of a gallon and can only run 90 miles per gallon. Also, even though it is legal in the freeway, riding this TANK scooter can be very uncomfortable. Its small wheels can give a feeling of instability.

There are other reliable cheap gas scooters in the market. You just need a good eye for dealers and a reputable dealer in order to make sure that you will not go wrong in picking your bike.

:: Alexes Lebeau

Gas scooters have been around in European and Asian countries for quite some time; the Americans didn’t find them attractive, until recently. The American market opened its doors to gas scooters because of their many new styles and because they are being seen in many films. The rising price of gasoline is another reason for Americans’ acceptance of gas scooters.

Gas scooters are more advantageous over cars and motorcycles in terms of efficiency and convenience. The gas tank of most gas scooters use only a fraction of the expense needed to keep a car tank full. Some gas scooters even have an extra storage compartment, thus making it suitable for running local errands. Gas scooters are not only fuel efficient, but also quite cheap. The most expensive gas scooter costs much less than motorcycles and economy cars. Not only that, the insurance requirement for gas scooters is less restrictive than the equivalent liability coverage for cars and motorcycles. The reason for this is that the gas scooter cannot go at high speeds, thus lowering the probability of an accident occurring.

Compared to a gas scooter, motorcycles prove to be difficult to operate for day-to-day activities like shopping and commuting to work. Cars have many monthly payments, in addition to licensing fees and mandatory insurance. Due to its size, a gas scooter makes parking easy. Car owners have to go in loops looking for a suitable parking space, while a gas scooter can be legally parked in city-sponsored bicycle racks or even be secured to chains to sturdy objects on the sidewalk.

Although gas scooters are found readily in the retail market, not all retailers carry all the available styles. They keep only the popular models that most people ask for. However, those who want a unique scooter model just have to search online. All that one has to do is to surf the Internet for the numerous online scooter stores and choose the model and style of gas scooter required.

::  Kevin Stith

Gas Motor Scooters - The Truth Will Shock You

Many people already know that Gas Motor Scooters offer incredible gas mileage benefits compared to cars. Most cars get you about 20 mpg where the average scooter can get you up to 85 mpg. This is especially wonderful news with gas prices inching up to $5.00. However, this is not the only advantage for choosing a gas motor scooter. Here, are some of the other advantages most people are unaware of:

1. Cheapest Gas Vehicle on the market. The cost of a gas scooter compared to car is a bargain. The average new car can easily run you well over $15,000. A new gas scooter can run anywhere from $500 to $3,000. This is quite a price difference when you think you could have five scooters for the price of one car.

2. Lower Repair Costs. Gas Scooters offer lower repair costs because they get in less accidents than cars and their design is simpler than cars. This means you will spending less on repairs due to less accidents and less expensive parts. This is good news for those who are cost conscious as they try to stick to their budget.

3. Potentially Better Insurance Rates. You can often get better rates on a scooter than you can on a car. The lower accident percentages work in your favor as they keep your rates down. This is another hidden cash savings benefit of gas motor scooters.

4. Safer Than Cars and Motorcycles. Since gas scooters are normally designed for highway use and the worst accidents tend to occur on highways, buying a scooter keeps you away from the worst danger. Plus, the scooters design is small and sleek allowing it to avoid accidents rather than withstand the impact of them. At the end of the day, we would all rather avoid them than be in them.

5. More Environmentally Friendly. With greater gas mileage, you also get lesser emissions. At a time when we really can lower our carbon footprint with little impact on our daily lives, it only makes sense to set a good example for your family and friends.

::  Kyle Park

Advantages of Using Gas Powered Scooters

If you have friends who are scooter freaks then gas powered scooters are great gift ideas for them. The biggest advantage of these scooters are that they are all fuel efficient and if the increasing price of gas is worrying you then any of these should be the ideal one as your regular transport.

Advantages of using gas powered scooters: According to a recent survey in US almost one out of three Americans prefers to ride the gas powered scooters. They use it keeping in mind the following advantages.

More speed for you: When you are thinking about speed then the gas powered scooters can really run fast. You can choose a scooter that runs at 16 miles per hour to one which can get a speed up to 65 miles per hour. Though the noisy engine might disturb you but then here is a solution for that too. Get a C.A.R.B Tier 2 exhaust emission motor.

A scooter which is more compact: The gas scooters unlike the other means of transport are quite light in weight with a small stature. It is easier to find a parking space for your gas scooter than a car or any other transport. Moreover it is easier to maneuver through narrow lanes in case you are stuck in traffic.

No headache of registration: The biggest advantage of riding a gas scooter is that in most cases you require neither a registration nor a driving license. This means that you do not have to shell out money for license or registration and you might not even need to have vehicle insurance in some cases.

More reliable: It is better to go for a gas scooter from a reputed brand and before buying it always ask for a warranty. Once you have a gas scooter you can find for yourself how good the service is but then remember it needs maintenance also and if you maintain it properly it is the best vehicle that you can have.

Think about expense: If you want to buy a car it will cost you a fortune and therefore if you need to have something at a lower price then go for a gas scooter; you can have them at a price as low as $300. Moreover they also come in various sizes and before buying it you can survey the models and decide which one suits you.

Environment friendly: The gas scooters operate on two stroke engine oil as well as gasoline. Since they come fitted with C.A.R.B Tier 2 exhaust therefore the fuel emission are in negligible amount if compared with that of a car and therefore is less harmful for you as well as the environment.

With so many advantages gas powered scooters are indeed best bargains for you as well as your friends who love scooters or want to own a vehicle.

:: Gloria Gonsalves

:: Johnny Mixx

Gas Motor Scooters - 3 Tips For Prospective Buyers

With record high fuel prices, the news outlets have been talking about how Americans are desperate to find modes of transportation that are not as costly as driving an automobile.
With gas prices reaching over $4.00 per gallon in the spring of 2008, motor scooter sales are booming as drivers struggle to pay the rising cost at the pumps. For the past 5 years we've watched fuel prices almost double which has lead many drivers with no other option but to find cheaper ways of traveling. Savvy drivers have been looking for ways to reduce their gas budgets, which has lead to the increase in sales of gas motor scooters.

It might be that when you think of a motor scooter, you automatically think of the small scooters that had little use other than something to play around on. Over the years scooter manufacturers have listened to find out what consumers want when building a motor scooter. Consumers responded saying that they wanted a scooter that could replace their car and that they wanted something that can be driven anywhere that a car could be driven. Although small gas scooters with 50cc engines are still available and are selling fast as well, you should also know that newer, larger motor scooters are a hot commodity today. These newer, faster gas scooters have engines over 100cc's and features such as windshields, radios and larger tires, that are not normally available on a smaller scooter. The new generation motor scooters are allowing consumers more freedom when it comes to driving a gas scooters since these can be driven on major highways.

If you're about to start looking for a gas scooter, here are a few things that you need to keep in mind when buying a gas motor scooter:

How Long Will You Keep It?

First you will want to decide what you plans are in terms of how long you plan to keep your gas powered motor scooter. If you're looking for a model that you can keep for a number of years and drive thousands of miles you will want to consider buying a model with a larger engine. Larger engines will be better suited for high mileage, whereas a small, inexpensive motor scooter would be better suited to driving short distances or on an occasional basis. Popular among students are the small, cheap scooters that provide reliable and economical transportation during the summer months. A small, 50cc model would be well suited to this purpose. Usually the brand should be a consideration when determining the quality of a motor scooter. Of the brand name scooters such as Vespa and Honda, you will notice that there are many still on the road today that were built in the 70's & 80's. A gas powered scooter, when properly maintained can last for years, or if abused and neglected, may last only a few seasons.

Engine Size

Of all the factors to consider when buying a gas powered scooter, engine size quite possibly the most important. The size of engine that the scooters has will will dictate where you will be able to drive the scooter. Small scooters with engine sizes below 50cc, are good for streets, but if you want to drive it on the highway, you will want to get a 100cc model or higher. If you plan to use your motor scooter on highways, buy the largest model that you can afford on your budget and consult your Department of Motor Vehicles office to find out specific laws regarding driving motor scooters in your area.

Cost

Cost may be the most important factor for many when choosing a motor scooter that's right for you. There are motor scooters available for less than $1000 which are good as a means of transportation for short distances, on secondary roads or for a specific period of time in life, such as a summer break. These scooters are usually made in China and are available on the internet for less than $1000. If your budget is a little higher, a more mainstream scooter such as a Vespa or Honda is a great option as these are proven to be quality scooters. If your budget is larger and you want the ultimate in luxury motor scooters or a scooter full of features, a Piaggio MP3 or a Suzuki Burgman might be right for you. These larger scooters are actually about the same size as a motorcycle, but offer the uniqueness of a gas motor scooter.

Before buying a scooter, ensure that you do adequate research so that you purchase the scooter that will be best for your needs.

:: Blake Hygate is the owner of http://MotorScooterWarehouse.com which provides listings of Gas Motor Scooters for sale throughout the United States.

Cheap Gas Scooters - What You Need to Know Before Buying

One thing all consumers can agree with is they don't like parting with their money. For this reason, cheap gas scooters can be very appealing for those who are on a budget or trying to save some cash. However, buying a cheap gas scooter can be dangerous if you do not know what you are doing. To help you avoid buying a bad scooter, we have put together the following tips:

1. Be willing to sacrifice certain features. If you are willing to opt for a smaller engine, you can save some serious cash. Although 50cc engines are not the most powerful, they are very effective for most people's needs. Plus, they usually get better gas mileage. Do an analysis of your needs to see if a smaller engine would work for you. Also, see if there are other features you could do without. Creating a priority list can help you find a scooter that has what you absolutely must have and save you money but cutting out the non-essentials.

2. Consider buying used models. This is a great way for getting some top model scooters at a bargain price. If you are interested in Vespa for instance, this is what you would need to do if you are working on a budget. Used scooters work great as long as you stick with manufacturers that have an established reputation.

3. Experienced mechanics can take a chance on new companies. If you know your way around a scooter and can do your own repair work, you can save some cash by taking a chance on new companies and manufacturers. They will usually offer cheaper prices to try to get you to become a customer. The knock on them usually is about getting parts and finding mechanics who can do the repair work. However, if you are handy with a wrench and have some scooter knowledge, this becomes a non-issue for you.

4. Don't be afraid to bargain with the salesman. Often times, you can get the salesperson to come down on their price. Gas powered scooters are rapidly taking over as the preferred method of transportation to work and school. They are economical, can maneuver through tight spaces and with a gas scooter, you can take short-cuts that an automobile can not.

Gas powered scooters are also known as mopeds which is a two-wheeled (normally) low powered vehicle. In most states its small size and low power output allow it to escape many of the licensing, insurance, and driver restrictions placed on motorcycles. However, be careful of the true description of moped.

a. A moped is traditionally defined as a motorized 2 wheel vehicle that is part human and part motor driven. A moped has pedals so that it can be propelled by human power. As you can see, gas powered scooters do not fit most states definition of moped.

Don't fret though, a gas scooter used properly will not get you into any trouble in most places. If used responsibly and traffic laws are obeyed, most law enforcement won't touch you.

Gas scooters were first introduced in the mid 1950's. The first design was little more than a bicycle with an engine mounted on it, it was called a cyclemotor. The cylcemotor can still be seen on the road these days in the form of electric bikes.

One reason some people have a gas scooter is to circumvent loosing a driver's license. Many states don't require a driver to have an operator's license if they are over eighteen years of age, sixteen in some states. They also don't require insurance and registration.

Gas powered scooters have several advantage that should be noted.

a. No parking spots required. Some gas powered scooters can fold down for easy storage right in your office, or you can tie it up at the door with the bicycles right in front of the buildings door or on the sidewalk.

b. A gas powered scooter is faster than the average electric scooter. They can travel at speeds up to thirty-five miles an hour.

c. Gas powered scooters can maneuver rather well - A gas powered scooter is a great way to move through traffic. They dart in and out between cars, especially gridlocked traffic. Imagine sleeping in an extra twenty-thirty minutes. With the time you save avoiding traffic, you can afford to. how smart are you?

d. Gas scooters have very cool body styles; some gas powered scooters look more like miniature motorcycles than scooters.

e. Gas scooters save tons of money - While the cost of gassing up gas powered scooters might seem expensive compared to the low cost of running an electric scooter, the mileage they get quickly makes up for the gallon of gas they require.

f. Maintenance is a breeze- A Gas scooter is easy to maintain. With a basic grasp of tools and a decent book about mechanics most people are able to maintain their gas powered scooters in their own garage.

The best thing about a gas scooter is the freedom to literally go just about anywhere. While you ride your scooter along the trail or the beach, you can go more places than most automobiles. Hop on your new gas scooter and get ready for a new adventure. Take a minute and smell the roses or take in the sights like never before. They are compact and easily maneuverable in congested city settings. Because they are basically maintenance free, gas scooters have become a staple in college life. Students use them for getting from class to class or even for short trips.

The very first thing you should check when thinking of purchasing a gas scooter is the law in your state and also double check with local law enforcement. The state may not have a problem with gas scooters, but local government may have ordinances in place stating when and where you can use the scooters. You may run into sticky stops because they are not quite a vehicle, but are not quite a bicycle, either.

The laws will also vary from state to state, so make sure you completely check all the states you will be scooting in. Some places will say that scooters have to obey the same traffic laws as cars, but are classified as a variant of bicycles. Massachusetts's law says that a rider must have at least a learner's permit, as well as wear a helmet and observe traffic laws. However, it doesn't need to be registered because the DMV classifies it the same as a skateboard.

If you are going to use the gas scooter, make sure it can keep up with traffic. You should be able to go at least the minimum speed so as to not cause a hazard. You should get between fifty and seventy miles per gallon. Besides the great gas mileage, these scooters are recommended more than electric scooters for long distance errands or 'running around' town. The batteries in electric scooters may run out, leaving you stranded. Also, gas scooters are better equipped to be used in traffic.

Keep in mind that, when riding a scooter, they are for use by one rider at a time. Putting an extra body on may prove unsafe. Also, be sure to wear a helmet and follow the local traffic laws. Treating the scooter as a motorcycle is a good rule of thumb.

In fact, these scooters are so similar to motorcycles, that The Motorcycle Safety Foundation has started offering courses in safety for gas scooter riders. The main thing that riders of both vehicles have to watch out for is people driving traditional cars, trucks and SUVs. They are not used to watching for scooters or motorcycles. This is why you must be extra careful if you chose to use this as your mode of transportation on regular roadways.

Don't forget, for all the upsides of gas scooters, make sure it is legal for you to drive one in your city, town or state. Make sure you have a helmet if one is required by law and for safety's sake.

Summary:

Recently, gas scooters have become more popular due to excellent gas mileage, few repairs and affordability. Just make sure that your state and local governments allow scooters and be sure to follow all safety precautions, including watching out for drivers in cars that may not be looking out for you.
:: Brooke Hayles

Gas Scooter: a Perfect Road Runner

Have you ever ridden a gas scooter and felt the exhilaration as the wind sweeps through your hair? Though not many of us may have ridden one, a gas scooter promises to be different things to different people — safe, fuel efficient, low-maintenance, smart, and speedy. Add to that low insurance costs and high-quality components, and it is easy to see why gas scooters are rapidly gaining in popularity in these times of high fuel costs.

Simply put, a gas scooter represents exceptional value for money. In addition to all its advantages, it is also easy to park (no mean consideration in our crowded cities) and can move smoothly through heavy traffic. And because it is such a complete package, a gas scooter appeals to different age groups and social segments.

Wide front handlebars, solid and sleek design, sturdy floorboards, and soft seats are some of the unique features that you get with every gas scooter. Moreover, at every end, the wheel is attached to a U-turning capacity. Accessorize your needs to the fullest by adding extra parts to your gas scooter. Add headlights, taillights, windshield and similar other devices – in short, anything that makes for a pleasurable riding experience. In addition, do you need space to store your luggage? Behind the seat, you can add a storage box to serve that purpose, too!

Most gas scooters are equipped with two-stroke and four-stroke gas engines. Unlike the two-stroke engine, which has two separate tanks, one for oil and another for gas, four-stroke engines are just like car engines and do not require any injection oil.

Owing to their lesser displacements, gas scooters are less accident-prone than their two-wheeler counterparts, motorcycles. The principal reason for this is speed. At between 25 and 60 miles per hour, gas scooters are speedy enough to be a viable mode of conveyance, and yet sedate enough not to burn up the tires.

Even a casual online search will reveal a wide variety of cost-effective gas scooters. A favorite of Europe and Asia for many years, there is trend beginning where gas scooters are starting to fly off the shelves in America. When you consider their advantages, it is easy to see why:

1. Scooters get into less accidents.

The percentages and statistics show that scooter drivers get into less accidents than cars and motorcyclists. This is due in part because of the design of scooters. Since they are smaller vehicles, it is easy for them to maneuver and avoid accidents. In addition, most scooters are not made for highway driving where accidents are the highest. Finally, while riding a scooter, a scooter driver is required to have both hands on the wheel and is less likely to be distracted than say a car driving who is talking on their cell phone.

2. Scooters are cheaper to buy.

The cost of a new car or motorcycle is easily 3 to 5 times as much as a scooter. This means not only do you save money on gas mileage benefits, but you also save money at the very start with the purchase.

3. Scooters have cheaper repair bills.

Scooters have a basic straight-forward design which means that scooter repairs are uncomplicated and fairly easy to get corrected. This translates into cheaper repair bills compared to expensive bills you might pay on a sophisticated car.

4. Scooter get better gas mileage.

This fact is the draw for most motorists who make the switch from car to scooter is this great gas mileage savings. This is easy to see why when a scooter gets 60 to 80 mpg and a car gets 15 to 25 mpg.

5. Scooters can have cheaper insurance premiums.

Since scooters get into less accidents, you can often get cheaper insurance premiums. This is more great news for those who are trying to save their hard earned money.

6. Scooters are better for the environment than cars.

Scooters actually emit less emissions into the air. This means you know that you are creating a smaller carbon footprint when you ride your scooter.

With all of these advantages, it is easy to see why gas scooters have become the new “it” item. One additional piece of advice I would give when looking at gas scooters if you are a new scooter owner is to start with the Top Brands. The top brands include: Yamaha, Buddy, Vespa, Honday, and Aprilla. These brands have established quality reputations with past customers and have a sold parts and labor network in the US. Going with other brands can be somewhat dicey as they do not have the same reputation and it can be difficult to get parts for them. Therefore, unless you are a mechanic, I would stick with the top brands. However, regardless of which brand you choose, I think you will find that gas scooters are great for saving some cash and are a fun ride as well.

:: Frank Miller

Gas Scooters Safety Rules For Staying Alive!

Gas motor scooters are often thought of as toys, innocent and cheap fun. But it's exactly that type of thinking that can get a gas scooter driver into deep trouble. First and foremost scooters are motor vehicles

just like motorcycles and automobiles. They share the road with other cars and trucks and are subject to similar laws and regulations. And although they are an object of desire for many they can be dangerous for the unexperienced or unprepared.

As a general rule gas powered scooters are regulated by state laws as either motorcycles or mopeds and are subject to similar regulations as these other motor vehicles. By staying alert and using caution many accidents can be avoided. Most accidents arise due to carelessness. By paying attention to what is going on around you and what other drivers are doing you can feel relatively safe out on the highway.

There are two things that cause the majority of accidents, speeding and following too closely to the vehicle ahead. Driving safely is all about giving other drivers enough reaction time. If another driver wants to change into your lane directly in front of you it may cause you to lose control if you are speeding and haven't enough time to react. Without enough time to slow down this maneuver by the other driver may require you to move into another lane to avoid him. This can affect other drivers in other lanes which is the beginning of many accidents.

Another major mistake that many gas scooter drivers make is following too closely. When the person ahead of you suddenly slams on the brakes you need enough time to slow down comfortably. Ramming into the back of someone's car is not what you want to do, especially when you are driving a small scooter without any protection around you. By following the speed limits and giving yourself enough room to slow down if something unexpected should happen in front of you most accidents can be prevented.

The third problem arises when gas powered scooters are purchased for use by children and teenagers who do not even possess a valid driver's license. Drivers with licenses may not be any safer on the road than unlicensed drivers, but at least they have had some training and experience behind the wheel of a car. Children and teenagers without any training can be an accident waiting to happen when it comes to motor scooters. Without any experience or training children and young teenagers can quickly find themselves in positions that experienced drivers normally would not.

Kids have been known to throw caution into the wind, darting in and out of traffic without a clue as to the dangers. On gas scooters that are so small they can't be seen well by other drivers, and without much driving experience or training, kids will pose a hazard to both themselves and the other motorists they come in contact with.

Parents should be strongly cautioned to have their children receive the proper amount of training on their gas power scooters before they are allowed onto the busy city streets. Find a deserted road and put them through a training session. The life a parent saves may be his own children's. Only after a parent feels comfortable with his child's driving skills should they allow the child onto the busier streets. By making sure that our children know the safety rules of the road we are decreasing their chances of being involved in a serious accident. Before we can legally drive a car on the highway we must all pass certain tests. Why should it be any different for younger kids?

Gas or electric scooters are wonderful little vehicles that are fun to drive, cheap to buy and are very handy for traveling short distances around the neighborhood to perform errands. They usually have larger storage room than a motorcycle and are very inexpensive to operate. There are many reasons for owning a gas scooter, but in the hands of the untrained and inexperienced they can be deadly.

The ATV, go carts, dirt bikes and mini bikes are other vehicles that are often owned and operated by younger drivers. But they are usually not seen on the city streets as scooters are. Go karts are typically driven on tracks specifically designed for the go cart. And the mini bike, dirt bike or ATVs are typically driven off road. These other vehicles avoid many of the dangers that scooter drivers must face, namely traffic on the busy highway.

Gas scooters are quite popular these days, especially among the younger market who are too young to drive cars yet. Without proper training for these kids it opens the door to possible serious accidents. As the worldwide popularity of gas scooters grows we need to make sure that people's awareness of driving and safety regulations keeps pace, especially among the kids that have no previous drivers experience.

Kids often think of gas scooters as toys, not as potentially dangerous vehicles. But a scooter is not a toy. It is a motor vehicle that is subject to certain laws and regulations. People need to be aware of the potential scooter dangers and remain alert while driving at all times. They should not drive erratically, but be predictable and courteous to other drivers on the road. They should follow the speed limits and remain a safe distance behind other vehicles. Kids should receive proper training before being allowed on the busier streets. By taking these few safety precautions we can help ensure a fun safe driving experience for all.

:: Dr. Larry A. The feeling is one of exhilaration and thrill. The driver can sense the freedom that comes from riding on an open road. This article will explain the two basic aspects of gas powered scooters - what it is and how it works.

What it is?

Gas powered scooters are scooter that use gas as fuel for their engines. Majority of gas-powered scooters have automatic gear transmission system. These are also called as variable transmission machines. The manual gear transmission scooters are also available which have the gearshift lever and the corresponding clutch incorporated into the handlebar itself.

Gas powered scooter engines have piston displacement ranging from 49cc to 250cc. These displacements are smaller than that of other motorcycles. The engines are available in two types - two stroke cycles and four stroke cycles. The two stroke engines are much faster, having quicker acceleration and are of simple build with easy maintenance. The four stroke versions have complicated build, slower acceleration but have good fuel efficiency. The chief reason for manufacturers to opt for manufacture of four stroke gas powered scooters is to meet the strict emission norms that are getting every stricter.

How does it work?

Gas powered scooters come with manual kick-start or automatic electric start. Many scooters come with both electric start facility and manual kick-start. Most of them have automatic transmissions. To ride them one just has to start the scooter and twist the acceleration grip and lo! You are on your way. To slow down simply release the throttle grip. In many, two-stroke gas powered scooters; you do not have to premix lubricating oil with gas. They have a separate oil container and automatic lubricating system, which takes away the hassle of premixing the fuel. Lubrication is done automatically in the carburetor itself or in gas tank.

Gas powered scooters are popular all over the world as urban and rural means of road transportation. They are easy to use, easy to maintain and have lesser legal restrictions in most countries. They permit easy embarking and disembarking for the riders and hence are a favorite among women riders.

:: Barney Garcia

Best and Most Economic Choice Buying an Gas Scooter

When gas prices were high around the $3.00 mark a lot of people were considering buying scooters to transport themselves to and from work or just to get around town. I know, to date gas prices have gone down significantly, but a lot of people are still worried that gas prices will go back up. Listening to the new, the Saudis’ are everything that they can to stabilize the prices and make them go back up. So, it may be a good idea to explore the purchase of the gas scooter if just for peace of mind if and when gas prices go back up.

In terms of the best choices when buying an gas scooter, well I have three choices for you. All are very reliable and are made by very respectable dealers.

My first choice would be a Honda scooter. Now, how can you go wrong with a Honda? From cars to motorcycle Honda has worked hard to put out a great product that last. As for scooters Honda has a full line of scooters that range from 49cc scooters to their top of the line 586cc scooters. The cheaper of the scooters will put you back $2000 or more dollars and the most expensive $8900 dollars. But I am sure you will be able to find a used Honda scooter with low cc's for much cheaper prices if these are out of your price range.

My second choice would be a Bajaj scooter. These scooters are lightweight with chassis that are easy to handle. Thinking about going green? Bajaj scooters produce very low emissions as a very high speed output of a minimum speed of 55 mph depending on the model that you purchase. On the low end these scooters will put you back in the price range of $1600 dollars and on the high end you could spend as much as $7000 dollars.

My last choice would be a Yamaha scooter. Don't take this as being the worse out of my three picks. Yamaha scooters are on the same line as Honda. Very reliable the will keep you on the road for years to come. Their new veno model which cost around $2000 dollars gets an estimated 110 mpg. Great gas mileage. This is a 49cc liquid air cooled 4 stroke scooter that looks a lot like the vespa scooters seen on most foreign films from Europe. If you want more power and want to blow out your budget then you can go top of the line with the Yamaha Majesty scooter. This scooter cost around $6100 dollars and gets 51 mpg. Not as many mpg as the veno but it has a lot more power.

Any of these are great scooters for the money and you will not make a bad choice with any one of them.

:: Kenneth Elliott

Gas Scooteers - One rs - One Means Of Transport Which Is Easy On Your Wallet

Because of the high cost of fueling and car repairs, some people have turned to a gas scooter as an alternative form of transportation. They were first introduced to the public in the 1940's. After a decline, they have been getting more popular since about 2000.

One of the reasons for the surge of popularity is because gas scooters have a reputation of being easy on the wallet. This is a well-deserved reputation as they get approximately fifty to seventy miles per gallon. If you know a scooter owner, you will undoubtedly hear stories of how infrequently they have to fill up the gas tank.

Other reasons for the gas scooters being so popular are because of the cost. Depending on where they are purchased, they are only from about $800 to $6,000. This price is very attractive to people who cannot afford a car or even a motorcycle. They can reach acceptable speeds to keep up with traffic and still get great gas mileage.

Women are a big part of the gas scooter revolution. The lightweight and maneuverability make them a very real option to getting on a motorcycle. But women are not the only ones who use them for this reason. Smaller men or those who cannot comfortably get on to or off of a motorcycle will find this a viable option. Or, if the typical motorcycle to wide to sit on for a long time, the scooter is usually narrower and will make for a more comfortable ride.

Ease of parking is another benefit to scooters. It is so compact, that parking, even tight parallel parking, is no problem for the rider of a scooter.

Those other entire reasons aside, the gas scooter is just plain fun. In very recent memory, scooters have become more of a trend in some areas than necessity. Even motorcycle groups have jumped on the bandwagon, so to speak, and have started offering safety courses and comparing models. Freedom and convince are two of the traits enjoyed by scooter owners.

Major, well-known brands like Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda manufacture the bulk of the scooters on the road today. Piaggio is also a well-known name that owns Vespa and Aprilia. These are the ones you will see on surface streets in the cities.

As we look into the future, it is easy to see that we will be sharing the road with scooters, just as we do motorcycles today. They are easy on the wallet as well as on gas. They have a wonderful niche that will just keep getting bigger as time goes on. This is definitely a mode of transportation that will keep growing in popularity.

Summary:

Many people are turning to gas scooters as a means of transportation due to the rise in fuel prices. They are lightweight and very maneuverable, which makes them attractive to women and people with physical limitations. They are very cost effective and trendy.

:: Brooke Hayles

Save Gas With a Scooter

Scooters can be a great benefit to many. Whether you are looking to save money or in helping a senior citizen regain his independence a scooter may be just what you need. Maybe you are interested in a scooter because you know they are inexpensive to buy and to operate.

Motor scooters are very versatile and offer just about anyone a good reason to own one. So whether you want a motor scooter to save money or to provide an increase in the quality of life for a love one, motorized scooters may be the way to achieve your goals.
But the best reason to own a gas motor scooter or an electric scooter is very simple: they are fun and exciting. Gas scooters can be faster, but disability scooters are safe and reliable.
Become familiar with the electric scooter or gas scooter before you ride. Read and understand instructional manuals. Riding your scooter with control and safety will require practice. Anyone that will be riding the scooter needs to know the proper way to ride his or her scooter. Front brakes on the scooter provide most of your stopping power. Practice at a safe speed until you are comfortable with how they work. Be sure to shift your weight to the rear when applying brakes, and lean forward when accelerating. Keep feet apart for more stability.
Ride your scooter in a safe place away from other vehicles and in an area which will not disturb other people or animals. Be sure the riding area is a clean and dry surface. Do not ride in high traffic areas.

What type of motor scooter do you need?
Gas powered motor scooters have small wheels and a gasoline engine.
Electric motor scooters are generally heavier and larger.
Folding scooter or stand-up motor scooter has two wheels are are usually use for short distances around the neighborhood and are also called children's scooters.

Motor scooters for the handicapped are called mobility scooters and are typically electric.

:: Stanley Griffith

A Buyers Guide to Motor Scooters!

Before the 1920s it was an easy decision, a foot-powered push scooter or none at all. But once Gino Tsai from Shanghai, Taiwan developed the Razor scooter it changed everything. His motor scooters became popular so quickly there were people waiting in line for six months before they could get one.

In the 1950s companies like Vespa in the UK started selling the first of their gas motor scooters. It was a big hit at the 1950 Motorcycle Show and quickly became a big hit in the UK as well. Vespa sold over 125,000 in the UK between the years of 1950 to 1958. Piaggio from Vespa and Lambretta from Innocenti started selling their models in Italy and France too, quickly becoming the vehicles that everyone had to own. By the early 1950s the sale of motor scooters topped 1 million a year in France alone. Because of its popularity other countries such as France and Germany decided to get in on the boom by manufacturing their own models.

Today, after more than 50 years since the first gas scooters appeared, there are many different makes and models. We have electric, gas powered, foldable, mobility and utility motor scooters dotting the globe. There are specialized scooters for just about every task. They have become a worldwide phenomenon because they are cheap to own, economical to operate, are very handy and functional, and most of all they are a lot of fun. But with all of the makes and models which one is right for you?

Let's start with the different types. Gas motor scooters are the fastest around. They will take you longer distances and reach higher speeds than any of the other varieties. There are smaller and lighter models that will be perfect for running errands around town while the larger and heavier touring models will take you on longer trips. Plus, the larger the gas tank the farther you can travel before needing to stop at a service station.

Electric varieties are a little more economical to run, but will usually travel only about 10 or 15 miles before needing a recharge. Their battery capacity has improved dramatically over the years, but they cannot be taken for long trips due to the fact that their batteries will need recharging periodically. However, for short trips around the city they are wonderful little vehicles. Plus, most scooters have a large storage capacity under the seat so they are ideal for trips to the grocery store or for other light shopping sprees.

The elderly or handicapped typically use what is referred to as mobility scooters. These are usually electric models and have 3 or 4 wheels for extra stability. These models give the elderly or disabled the ability to get about in their homes or around the neighborhood more easily. Without mobility scooters many of the disability-impaired would be confined to their beds.

Another very popular type is the foldable scooter. These are very small and are made for short trips around town. They are particularly popular among the younger crowds. The beauty of these models is that they are extremely compact and can be folded for storage in small places. If you work just a few miles from your home you can travel to work on your folding scooter and then fold it up and put it underneath your desk at work. Very handy.

There are also utility scooters which can be used for many different purposes. They can be used as golf carts or for hauling things. Many big businesses use these types for getting around their factories. Schools use them for driving through the parking lot, checking for cars that shouldn't be there. Major league sports stadiums use them to drive people from one place to another. These are wonderful vehicles that can be used for a variety of reasons.

Once you've decided which type is right for your needs the next step is to figure out what options, if any, you would like included on your vehicle. Of course you can choose from many different colors and designs, but there are other options available to you. You can choose from the many varieties of covers, locks (for security), cases or side bags for storage, helmets, seats, handgrips, windshields or windscreens, backrests for touring, chrome kits, rear luggage racks and many more options. The list of accessories can go on for quite some time.

As a rule of thumb first choose the type of scooter you want, whether it be electric, gas, foldable or utility. This is the easy part because the type you purchase will depend upon your needs. Once that decision has been made look at several popular models in your area and decide which one looks and feels right to you. Most have accessories that are manufactured for a specific model so accessories cannot be decided upon until you know which motor scooter you are going to buy. Once you've decided which accessories you want for the model you chose it's a simple matter of driving your scooter out of the dealership. And it's nothing but fun from there on out.

:: Dr. Larry A. More and more people option to leave their big gas guzzling cars in the garage and hop on a gas scooter that will quickly take them to their destination, help them alleviate some stress induced by traffic and finding parking as well as save them gas money.

Having made a good case for buying a street legal gas scooter, one is faced with a flood of gas scooters brands and models.

Choosing the perfect gas scooter does not have to be a nerve wrecking experience. To start one must determine the budget for the acquisition of a scooter, consider the intended use as well as check local scooter laws. Will the scooter be ridden on highways and expressways? Is a motorcycle license required? Is one person going to be riding or does the scooter need to carry 2 people? What will the insurance cost?

Gas scooters come in many sizes and flavors. There is a perfect street legal scooter for everyone. From 50cc gas scooters that cost around $800 to 650cc Suzuki that cost over $7000 the choices are plentiful.

The first step to buying the perfect gas scooter is to call the local DMV, sheriff or police station. Most US States do not require a special driver license to ride street legal scooters under 50cc. Some States allow people to ride up to 149cc with a car driver license. Most States do not allow gas scooters under 125cc on highways and expressways.

The budget should also be decided early on. How much will be spent on the perfect scooter under $1000; between $1000 and $2000; or over $2000?

How big of an engine does the perfect scooter have? Is it a 50cc, 125 to 150cc, 200 to 300cc or a big fat 650cc scooter?

There are 2 main choices when choosing the perfect gas scooter, to buy from a local dealer or order a scooter online. People with means and needing full service should opt to buy from a local scooter dealer. People with limited budget and / or mechanically inclined people may consider buying their scooter online.

Street legal gas scooters are fun to ride, economical, easy to maintain and fuel-efficient. Some scooters get over 100 MPG. They are the perfect choice for whoever wants to save time, money and frustration.

:: natisha

History of Gas Scooters

The first patents for scooters go back as far as 1921. The Razor scooter was later developed by Gino Tsai in Shanghai, Taiwan and became an instant hit with the public. It didn't take long for motor scooter popularity to expand all over the globe.

Even before 1950 there were as many as 110,000 scooters on the road in Italy alone. It has been just a little over 50 years since the Vespa-Douglas Corporation in the UK sold their first gas scooters. The Douglas corporation was on the verge of bankruptcy when they first began selling their gas scooters. It was a big hit at the 1950 Motorcycle Show and saved the company from possible financial ruin.

From 1950 to 1958 Vespa sold over 125,000 of their gas powered scooters in the UK. Why the great success? During this period the European countries didn't have a great deal of money and there was not much gas available to the public. Due to the scarcity of gasoline and the high gas mileage of the gas motor scooter it's popularity quickly escalated.

It didn't take long for the Italian models (the Piaggio from Vespa and the Lambretta from Innocenti) to branch out to other countries. In France they became so popular the French tried to get in on the boom by manufacturing their own. By the early to mid 1950s the sale of gas scooters climbed to about 1 million a year in France alone.

Other countries wanted to profit from the newest craze and tried to climb on the band wagon. While some were successful others were not. Germany began to manufacture larger touring models, but this did not satisfy the public in the way the smaller, cheaper and more fuel-efficient models from Italy and France did. These smaller models were extremely popular in the European market.

Tourist Scooters Manufacturers in Germany built some very strong and powerful versions and were the first to install electric starters. These larger versions were great for traveling, touring and even racing, but were not as popular as the smaller, cheaper, more efficient models used for traveling shorter distances around town.

Vespa began marketing a couple of very popular gas powered scooters from Piaggio, the GS 125cc and the GS 150cc. These were improved versions of the earlier models for several reasons. The biggest reason is probably because the heavy gear mechanism rods were replaced by smaller and lighter cables.

France's Roussey Scooters tried to one-up the Italian competition by coming out with a 175cc model. These were very nice vehicles and included the first water-cooled engines along with other new features, but because it had a pull-start it could not compete with the newer models from Italy that were already offering versions with electric starts.

As these wonderful vehicles have evolved over the years they have become increasingly more popular all over the world. Today they are everywhere. They are cheap to purchase, economical to operate, and are very handy and functional. These are not toys and are genuinely a lot of fun to ride. There are electric, gas powered, foldable, mobility and utility scooters.

The electric types are often used by kids and teens, but are also popular with the elderly and handicapped. Models for the handicapped are usually called mobility scooters. Folding varieties can be folded up and conveniently stored under desks, in closets or in other tiny areas and utility types are used for many different purposes. They are more popular than go karts, mini bikes or go carts. Scooters, sometimes called mopeds or go peds, are very functional, convenient and are here to stay.

::Dr. Larry A. But if you are ready to put down money for a scooter, you'll first need to ask yourself, "Do I look at gas powered or electric models?"

We considered the points in favor of electric motor scooters in Part 1 of this series. (If you missed it, check my site.) Now let's glance at the advantages of gas powered scooters. You may have been high on electric scooters after scanning their selling points--but gas powered (and hybrid) scooters actually have plenty to offer. As you read this, you should ask yourself, "How do I see myself using the scooter?" Answering that question will lead you to the right choice. OK, here we go.

Gas powered motor scooters win points because...

:: They can travel many more miles without refueling. Even the best batteries will need to be recharged every couple hours (or 10-15 miles), while a 1-2 gallon tank on a gas powered model can take you as far as 200 miles.
:: Gas scooters are more cost effective where speed is concerned. In other words, you can drive faster while paying proportionally less. Gas powered models in the same price tier as electric models typically go 15-25 mph faster. And if you have your heart set on jetting down the freeway, you'll very likely need a gas powered (or hybrid) scooter.
:: Gas scooters offer greater versatility. With greater acceleration punch, speed, and power, gas models are the workhorses of the scooter world. They can carry more weight, drive further, and perform better on hills and rough ground.
:: Gas scooters are typically more durable, because they're designed to handle high speeds and are frequently capable of off-road use.
:: Refueling is as quick and easy as filling a 1-2 gallon tank. With an electric scooter, it's difficult to recharge a battery on the fly (curbside outlets, anyone?), and charging takes four to eight hours.
:: Gas powered scooters work well in all seasons, but battery power is decreased by extremes cold or heat.

Are you feeling more indecisive than when you started reading? Hopefully not--but if so, take heart. There is good news: both gas and electric motor scooters are produced by highly regarded manufacturers, both represent huge fuel savings over cars and trucks, and both are a great deal better for the environment. In addition, hybrid scooters are being developed that combine the best of both fuels.

Here's a quick review. If you want to invest in a model with a very minimal environmental footprint, an electric motor scooter may be the right pick. This is all the more true if your use will be mostly urban or residential and short-range. If you want to pack your scooter like luggage and take it on long trips, then buy an electric model.

If you want a scooter that's capable of highway or off-road travel, start looking at gas powered models. You'll pay less up front for your speed fix--and you'll have a tougher, more versatile scooter. Your fuel savings won't be as high as they would be with an electric model, but getting, at minimum, 50 mpg on gasoline is nothing to roll your eyes at.

::Ariel Vanderhorst
